WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RANKED NATIONALLY

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team is ranked nationally by the USA Today ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Blugold women are ranked 20th, and received 69 votes in the poll. The Blugolds were not ranked last year and finished with a 19-9 record.

Washington University (Mo.) is ranked first. Washington was ranked second last year and finished last season with a 25-6 record. DePauw University (Ind.) is ranked second this year after winning the National Championship in 2007. Last year they were ranked first and finished with a 31-3 record. Howard Payne University is ranked third after being ranked eighth last year. They finished last season with a 28-2 record.

Luther College is ranked ninth after finishing last season with a 24-4 record. Simpson College is ranked 18th. Millikin University (Ill.) is right behind the Blugolds, ranked 21st. UW-Whitewater is ranked 24th, and Lake Forest College (Ill.) is ranked 25th. In the receiving votes category, UW-Stevens Point received 31 votes and UW-Stout received six votes.

On November 1, the Blugold women received five first-place votes in the WIAC Conference Poll on their way to being the preseason favorite in the WIAC. The Blugolds went unbeaten at Zorn Arena in 2006-07. They return five starters who accounted for much of the playing minutes and points scored.

UW-Whitewater received two first-place votes in the WIAC poll. They also return all five starters. UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout, the reigning WIAC Champion, both received one first-place vote.

The Blugolds next action is on Saturday, November 17. They play Luther College, who is ranked ninth by the USA Today poll, in Decorah, Iowa. The game starts at 3 p.m.
