PLAYOFF TICKET SITUATION EXPLAINED
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The ticket policy for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball quarterfinal game to be hosted by UW-Eau Claire Tuesday was announced today by Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon. The game will be played at 7 p.m., February 26 in the W. L. Zorn Arena against an opponent yet to be determined. The playoff pairings will be announced by WIAC Commissioner Gary Karner and WIAC Sports Information Director Matt Stanek after the final regular season league games have been completed Saturday. Since the playoff game is a conference event, all patrons, including students, will need to purchase a ticket, explained Kilgallon. Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Monday morning at the university’s service desk in the W. R. Davies Center. Tickets will go on sale at Zorn Arena beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday. General admission prices are $6 for adults, faculty and staff, $4 for senior citizens and $2 for students through college level. College students must present a valid ID with their purchase. Kilgallon said that his staff will attempt to accommodate Blugold women’s basketball and All Sports season pass holders by allowing them to sit in their regular season reserved seats if they purchase a general admission ticket and show their season pass when they arrive at Zorn. While the Blugolds are guaranteed to host a game Tuesday, whether they are the No. 1 seed or the No. 2 seed may not be known even after the games are completed Saturday. If both Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater win their games, they will share the WIAC championship and tie-breaker procedures will be implemented. It appears that if both teams win, the tie-breaker will go down to the No. 5 criteria which is a coin flip by Commissioner Karner. The quarterfinal pairings will have the No. 8 seed at the No. 1 seed, No. 7 at No. 2, No. 6 at No. 3 and No. 5 at No. 4. All those games will be played Tuesday. The semifinal games will be played Thursday, February 28 with the league championship scheduled for Saturday, March 1. The Blugolds will continue to host as long as they win and are the highest remaining seed. Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. the day after any game they win if they will be hosting. The WIAC tournament champion will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III 63-team national tournament. - TP -
