WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PREPARES FOR PLATTEVILLE
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team is set to host UW-Platteville on Wednesday, and looks to recover from their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) loss this season. The Blugolds last game was a loss to UW-Stevens Point, 57-43. The Blugolds did get some help this weekend with UW-Whitewater losing to Stevens Point on Saturday, which puts the Blugolds in a first place tie with the Warhawks with a 12-2 record. Platteville has a 5-9 WIAC record and an 11-12 overall record. Platteville is coming off a 55-46 win against UW-Superior. In the last meeting of the Blugolds and the Pioneers on December 5th, the Blugolds started the second half sluggish, but went on an 18-0 run to put Platteville away for good. Michelle Burns (Sr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) had 21 points to help the Blugolds get the 73-61 victory. Heidi Arciszewski (Jr.-Thorp, WI) chipped in 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Heather Witt (Jr.-Kendall, WI/Royall) also played well with nine points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Platteville was led by Lisa Grantman’s 17 points. Coming into Wednesday’s game the Blugolds have the best scoring defense in the WIAC, averaging 54.4 points per game. The Blugolds are shooting 44 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line. The Pioneers are shooting 36 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line. Burns leads the Blugolds in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game. Arciszewski is right behind Burns averaging 13.6 points per game. Both Burns and Arciszewski also lead the team in rebounding. Burns averages 6.1 rebounds and Arciszewski averages 4.5 rebounds. Lisa Wubben leads the Pioneers in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. Lisa Grantman is averaging 11.3 point per game. Wubben also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7. 5 per game. Tip-off for this game is set for 7 p.m. in Zorn Arena. -SB-
