WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SET TO HOST RIVER FALLS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team is set to host UW-River Falls on Saturday at W.L. Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds are ranked 20th in the D3hoops.com poll and are coming off a huge victory against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday night by the score of 74-42. The Blugolds are leading the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with an 11-1 record. UW-Whitewater is second with a 10-1 record. UW-River Falls is coming in with a 1-10 WIAC record and 7-13 overall record.

In their last meeting the Blugolds got the 79-60 victory. Michelle Burns (Sr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) received her 1000-point milestone and finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The Blugolds took the lead in the middle of the first half with a Missy Fremstad (Jr.-Osseo, WI/Osseo-Fairchild) three pointer. The Blugolds took an 11 point lead into halftime. The Blugolds also played strong in the second half, not letting the Falcons get any closer than eight points.

Coming into Saturday’s game the Blugolds are averaging 67.5 points per game and giving up an average of 54.4 points, the best in the WIAC. The Falcons average 62.6 points per game and give up an average of 68.3 points. The Blugolds are shooting 45 percent from the floor and the Falcons are shooting 39 percent from the floor.

Heidi Arciszewski (Jr.-Thorp, WI) leads the Blugolds averaging 13.9 points per game and Burns is averaging 13.3 points per game. Rachel Mueggenborg (Sr.-West Salem, WI) is coming off a 29-point performance on Wednesday. The Falcons are led by Caitlin Hunstock, who averages 12.5 points per game.

This game is a doubleheader with River Falls with the women starting at 3 p.m. and the men tipping off at 5 p.m. Everyone is reminded to wear pink in honor of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “Think Pink” initiative.
