BURNS NAMED SECOND TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball forward Michelle Burns (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 5 Women’s Basketball Second Team College Division, it was announced today.

To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career and have at least a sophomore standing.

This is the first time Burns has received the award. The last time a women’s basketball player was selected to the All-District 5 team was in 2004 when Becca Spaeth earned first team honors. Since 2003, only Spaeth and Kristi Channing have made the list.

Burns is an elementary education major with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average to this point. She is a four-year starter for the Blugolds, playing in 91 games and starting 87. She is currently 12th on the school’s all-time career points list with 1,082 and all-time career rebounds list with 598. Burns received all-conference honors twice in her career (honorable mention freshman year, first team junior year) and also made it to the conference’s all-defensive team in 2007. This season she leads the team with 115 rebounds, also seventh in the conference, and is second on the team averaging 13.3 points per game, which is sixth in the conference.
