SOFTBALL STAFF HONORED WITH REGION AWARD

For the second consecutive year, the UW-Eau Claire softball coaching staff has been named the Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced.

Blugold head coach Leslie Huntington and assistants Robin Baker, Billie Buss, Nicole Pederson, and Rachel Lemon were one of nine staffs honored by the NFCA as Region Coaching Staffs of the Year.

The other region winners were Emory University & Bridgewater College (Atlantic Region), DePauw University (Central Region), Moravian College (East Region), Washington-St. Louis (Midwest Region), Rhode Island College (New England Region), Plattsburg State University (Northeast Region) and Linfield College (West Region), which was also named NFCA Division III National Coaching Staff of the Year after leading its team to a national championship and a 45-7 season record.

Huntington and her assistants directed the Blugolds to a 38-14 season mark. This represents the third best single season win total in school history, surpassed only by the 40-15 and 40-14 marks of the 1999 and 2000 teams, respectively.

The Blugolds won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship for the second straight season. They also finished third at the NCAA Division III World Series, which is the highest finish ever in Blugold Softball history. The World Series appearance was only the third in school history, with the other two coming in 1999 and 2000 where they finished fourth overall.
