WIAC COMPETITION COMES TO EAU CLAIRE THIS WEEKEND

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Because of the poor weather conditions Northwest Wisconsin has experienced this spring, Superior has moved its final three home games to Eau Claire this weekend. A total of 10 games with four teams competing will take place this weekend in Carson Park.

In a weekend that could determine the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season champion, Eau Claire will face Stevens Point on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Gelein Field, while Superior will play Whitewater on Hobbs Field. On Sunday Eau Claire will battle Whitewater at noon on Gelein Field, with Superior playing at the same time on Hobbs Field against Stevens Point. The Blugolds will then wrap up their regular season on Monday with a doubleheader against Superior on Gelein Field at noon.

The Blugolds, who are ranked 11th in NCAA Division III, head into this weekend in second place in the WIAC with an 8-2 record (23-7 overall). Stevens Point is currently in fourth place in the WIAC, with a 6-4 record (21-7 overall), while Superior is eighth in the WIAC with a 13-17 overall record and a 2-8 record in the conference. Whitewater currently sits at the top of the WIAC with a 10-2 record and a 24-6 overall record.

After Monday, Eau Claire, Superior and Whitewater will all be done facing conference opponents in the regular season. Stevens Point will wrap up its WIAC regular season schedule with a doubleheader at Whitewater on Tuesday.

Next weekend all nine WIAC teams will head to Stevens Point for the two-day WIAC Tournament. The winner of the double-elimination tournament will automatically advance to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
