MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
EAU CLAIRE - Head coach Chip Schneider recently announced the team award winners for the 2003 UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team.
John Schuna (So.-Hudson) earned MVP honors fresh off a third place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a season-best toss of 56-11.5 (17.36m). Schuna led all Blugold throwers going 56-11.5 in the outdoor shot, 165-11 (50.59) in the discus, 55-1 (16.79) in the indoor shot and 48-8.75 (14.85) in the weight throw. At the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Schuna finished sixth in the shot put.
John Brumund-Smith (Sr.-Waunakee) received the Captain Award for going above and beyond what was asked of him. The school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 52.93 set on May 16, Brumund-Smith advanced to the finals of the 400 hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 22-24.
Zach Severson (Fr.-Sun Prairie) was selected as the Newcomer of the Year. Severson ran the third-fastest time on the team in the 800 at 1:56.77 and fourth-fastest time in the 1,500 with a 4:00.75 during the outdoor season. Indoors Severson posted the fastest time on the team in the 1,500 at 3:58.80.
