MEN'S TRACK TIES FOR SIXTH AT WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire men's track finished in a tie for sixth place with UW-Stout at this year's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held here today at Colman Field.
John Brumund-Smith (Sr.-Waunakee) was the highest finisher for the Blugolds with his second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Brumund-Smith finished behind Derek Toshner of La Crosse with a time of 54.78 seconds.
John Schuna (So.-Hudson) also had a strong day for Eau Claire with his third place finish in the shot put and fifth place finish in the discus throw. Schuna tossed the shot put 16.19 meters and the discus 48.69 meters.
The Blugolds also received points from Adam Sturgis (Fr.-Bruce) and Kurt Heilman (Sr.-Kendall/Royall). Sturgis finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.15 seconds and Heilman took fifth in the high jump competition when he cleared 1.87 meters.
La Crosse took home first followed by Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Platteville and Whitewater.
Eau Claire will travel to La Crosse Friday to compete in the Leo Schnur meet. The scheduled start time is to be announced.
