MEN'S TRACK FAIRS WELL AT TWILIGHT OPEN
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team took home eight top five finishes as they competed in the Simpson College Twilight Open yesterday evening at Buxton Stadium.
No team scores were kept during the competition but Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse joined the Blugolds in the field.
Of the Blugolds eight top five finishes, two were of the third place variety, four were fourth place finishes, and two more were fifth place rankings. Joel Fredricks (Sr.-Sheboygan/North) claimed one of two third place finishes for the Blugolds as he took third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:33.00. The Blugolds 4x400 meter relay team grabbed the other third place finish, doing so with a time of 3:23.34.
Adam Sturgis (Fr.-Bruce) took fourth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.25 while teammate Jordan Klein (Fr.-Arcadia) finished just one position back in the event with a time of 11.33.
Ben Schmiege (Jr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) and Matt Goetz (Jr.-Manitowoc/Lincoln) also claimed fourth and fifth in the 1500 meter run. Schmiege took fourth with a time of 3:58.43 while Goetz finished one spot back as he covered the distance in 4:00.09.
Adam Condit (So-La Crosse/Central) also grabbed a fourth place finish for Eau Claire. Condit took fourth in the 5000 meter dash with a time of 15:27.62.
The Blugolds will be in action next Friday and Saturday at the WIAC Outdoors hosted by UW-Stevens Point.
