BLUGOLD MEN TIE FOR SIXTH AT WIAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

OSHKOSH - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team tied UW-Stout for sixth place today in the conclusion of the 35th Annual Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships held at Kolf Sports Center.

The Blugolds finished the event with 26 points, 18 of which came today. UW-La Crosse took first for the 28th time in the 35 year history of the event with 189 points. UW-Oshkosh came in second with 168 points followed by UW-Stevens Point with 127.

Kurt Heilman (Sr.-Kendall/Royall) brought home the highest finish for Eau Claire when he tied for third in the high jump. Heilman cleared 6 ½ feet to finish even with three other competitors.

Eau Claire earned six points today in the 1500-meter run. Zach Severson (Fr.-Sun Prairie) took fifth with a time of 3:58.80 with teammate Jeff Burkart (Jr.-Marshfield) coming in seventh in a time of 4:00.49.

The Blugolds got five points from the 4 x 400 relay team when they finished in a time of 3:25.75.

In yesterday's action, the distance medley relay team claimed six points by finishing third in a time of 10:04.76. John Schuna (So.-Hudson) scored the other points with his seventh place finish in the shot put.

The outdoor season will begin for Eau Claire Saturday, April 5. The Blugolds will travel to St. Paul to compete in the St. Thomas Invite.
