BLUGOLD MEN TAKE HOME EIGHT FIRST PLACE FINISHES
MENOMONIE - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team took home eight first place finishes in 16 events today at the Blue Devil Open hosted by UW-Stout.
Jordan Klein got things rolling for the Blugolds with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.23 seconds. In the very next event Zach Severson (Fr.-Sun Prairie) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.47.
Eau Claire continued their hot running with a first place finish from Ben Schmiege (Jr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) in the 1500-meter run. Adam Condit (So.-La Crosse/Central) followed up Schmiege with a first place finish in the 3000-meter run. Ethan Kreul (So.-Poynette) and Joel Fredricks (Sr.-Sheboygan/North) finished behind Condit to take second and third place, respectively.
In the high jump Kurt Heilman (Sr.-Kendall/Royall) finished first with a distance of 1.9 meters. Shaun Marek (Jr.-Waunakee) added another first place finish when he jumped 12.39 meters in the triple jump.
John Schuna (So.-Hudson) took home the final two first place finishes for the Blugolds. Schuna won the shot put with a distance of 15.27 meters and the weight throw with a distance of 14.56 meters.
Eau Claire will be in action next when they travel to Stevens Point to participate in the Pointer Invite Saturday, March 1. The invite is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
