MEN'S TRACK TAKES FOURTH AT B0WLUS INVITATIONAL
MENOMONIE - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team took third place while the men's team took fourth here today in the Warren Bowlus Invitational hosted by UW-Stout.
Distance runners led the men's team with three of the top four finishers in two events. Ben Schmiege (Jr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) beat out teammate Zach Severson (Fr.-Sun Prairie) by eight tenths of a second to win the 1500-meter run. Jeff Burkart (Jr.-Marshfield) came in a second after Severson to claim fourth place.
In the 5000-meter run Adam Condit (So.-La Crosse/Central) took first in a time of 15:14.10 which was 13 seconds better than the second place finisher. Micah Hernandez (So.-Milwaukee/Wisconsin Lutheran) took third while Nick Hardt (Sr.-Galesville/G.E.T.) took fourth.
The women's team got four first place finishes and a handful of second place finishes in taking third place. Jennifer Stafslien (So.-Onalaska/West Salem) took first in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.65 seconds and also took first in the long jump with a distance of 5.25 meters. The Blugolds' other first place finishes came in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400-meter relays.
Second place finishes went to Breanna McMullen (Jr.-Fall Creek) in the 55-meter hurdles, Sarah Kasabian (Jr.-East Peoria, IL/E.P.C.H.S.) in the 3000-meter run, Danielle Brabender (So.-Cottage Grove, MN/Monona Grove) in the high jump, and Stafslien again in the triple jump.
The women will be in action again when they will compete in the Eastbay Pentathalon Friday in Stevens Point. The women will then join the men's team to participate in the Border Battle at St. Olaf Saturday. The Border Battle is set to begin at 1 p.m.
