MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD TAKES FIFTH AT POINTER INVITATIONAL

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team placed fifth among the field of eight teams in the Pointer Invitational held here today at the HEC Multi-Activity Center.

Ben Schmiesge (Jr.-Madison/Lakeside Lutheran) was the top individual finisher for the Blugolds as he took second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:43.78, only one second behind the first place finisher.

John Tegtmeier (Fr.-Appleton/North) also placed as he finished third in the 800-meter run. Tegtmeier finished the race in a time of 1:58.49.

The Eau Claire distance medley team had a strong showing as they took first in a time of 10:24.73. The Blugolds finished 27 seconds ahead of the second place team. The four by 400 relay team also put forth a strong effort in placing third in a time of 3:31.07.

Host UW-Stevens Point took first in the invite with eight first place finishes. The University of Minnesota-Duluth finished second and had four first place finishers.

The Blugolds will travel to Menomonie Saturday to compete in the Warren Bowles Invite. The invite is scheduled to begin at noon.
