MEN’S TENNIS CONTINUES TO ROLL ON SPRING BREAK TRIP

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team took down Tiffin University 8-1, staying perfect on its spring break trip here today.

Eau Claire has now won its last five contests and 10 out of the last 11, holding a 16-3 overall record. Tiffin falls to 2-4 on the season.

On the singles side, two super-tiebreakers were used, with the teams splitting victories. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) won at No. 1 over Tristin McLean 6-0, 4-6, 10-3, while Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) was unable to capture the victory, falling 3-6, 7-6, 10-4 to Tiffin’s Harry Smith at No. 2.

Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) picked up a win over Bo Young by default at No. 3, and Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) also won by a score of 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 5 spot over Ryan Toporowsky. At No. 6, C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) defeated Ben Fletcher 6-1, 6-4, while Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) did not give up a point, winning in straight sets over Ryan Hodges at No. 4.

At No. 1 doubles, Lantz and Loprinzi won their seventh straight match, defeating the pair of McLean and Hodges 8-5. Lars Olson and Fawcett also picked up an 8-4 victory over Smith and Young at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 spot, Rose and Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) gave up only one point, picking up an 8-1 win over the duo of Toporowsky and Fletcher.

The Blugolds will wrap up their spring break trip with a final meet against Grove City College (Pa.) on Thursday at 8 a.m. in South Carolina.
