MEN’S TENNIS OPENS SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH VICTORY

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team picked up a win, coming off a two-week break, as it defeated the University of Scranton 7-2 to open up its six-meet trip here today.

After losing their previous meet just over two weeks ago, the Blugolds got back on track with the victory today and are now 12-3 this season.

Eau Claire only dropped two matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles today. All the matches the Blugolds won on the singles’ side were taken in straight sets. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) was victorious in the No. 3 spot today, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win. Brett Gressick (Sr.-De Pere, Wis.) also won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 and 6, Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Eric Wollum (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) did not give up any points, winning 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) won 8-2 at No. 1, while Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) and C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley) also picked up an 8-2 victory in the No. 3 spot. Lars Olson and Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) defeated their opponents 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Eau Claire will play again tomorrow when it takes on Hobart University at noon in Hilton Head, S.C.
