MEN’S TENNIS CONTINUES WIN STREAK

ST. PETER, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team won its fifth straight meet, and 10 out of its last 11, with a 7-2 victory over National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics opponent University of Sioux Falls here tonight.

The Blugolds are now 11-2 on the season, while Sioux Falls opened its spring campaign against the Blugolds tonight.

The meet featured three super-tiebreaker matches with the Blugolds taking two of three. Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, MN) won his No. 5 singles match with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 victory over Michel-Olivier Marcoux. Mike Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) was also able to pull a victory off, winning 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 over Sioux Falls’ Nolan Wiese at No. 6 singles. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) came up short at No. 4 singles, dropping the match 3-6, 7-6, 7-10 to Michael Anderson. Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) was the only other Blugold to fall tonight, losing at No. 1 singles to Braden Bradfield 3-6, 4-6. Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Kevin Fawcett (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona) both picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Loprinzi won 7-6, 6-2, while Fawcett took the match 7-5, 7-5.

The Blugolds took all three doubles matches this evening with Loprinzi and Lantz winning 8-5 at No. 1 doulbes and Fawcett and Lars Olson winning 8-6 at No. 2. C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) and Johnson played in a close match but pulled off the victory with a 9-8 win in the No. 3 spot.

The Blugolds will be back on the court Saturday when they take on Gustavus Adolphus at 9 a.m.
