MEN’S TENNIS WINS FINAL TWO HOME MEETS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team won its final two home events of the season, defeating Lawrence University 7-2 and Bethel University 6-3 today in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Blugolds are now 10-2 on the season and have now won four in a row since last weekend and nine of their last 10. Lawrence is now 0-2 on the season, falling to UW-La Crosse on Friday night in its season opener, while Bethel is also 0-2 this year.

Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) won both of his singles matches today, playing at No. 1 against Bethel and No. 2 against Lawrence. Lantz won 6-2, 6-2 against Lawrence’s Dan Hertel and 6-4, 7-6 against Bethel’s Chris Scheevel. Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) also did not lose a match, winning 6-0, 6-2 against Kyle Nodarse of Lawrence and Bethel’s David Torres by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Both matches were played in the No. 3 spot.

In doubles play, Eau Claire swept Bethel and won two out of three against Lawrence. C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) and Aaron Johnson (Fr.-Elk River, MN) won both times today, playing at No. 2 doubles against Lawrence’s Travis Fondow and Lincoln Thomas and following with a No. 3 match against Bethel’s Joel Cassens and Alex Zabel. They won by scores of 8-0 and 8-6, respectively.

Up next the Blugolds will travel to St. Peter, Minnesota for two meets. They will take on Sioux Falls on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and will play Gustavus Adolphus at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
