MEN’S TENNIS HOSTS FINAL HOME MEETS OF SEASON

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team will look to continue their winning ways this weekend, hosting three dual meets in the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Blugolds are 7-2 on the season and after winning five straight meets, lost last Saturday for only the second time this year. They bounced back with a victory later in the day last Saturday and will look to improve this weekend.

On Friday Eau Claire hosts St. Norbert College with the meet set to begin at 6 p.m. St. Norbert is 2-3 this season and split last weekend with an 8-1 loss to Oshkosh and a 9-0 win over Elmhurst College on Saturday.

The Blugolds will then play again Saturday morning at 8 a.m. against Lawrence University before they take on Bethel University at 4 p.m. the same day. Lawrence University is just starting their spring season this Friday when they play at UW-La Crosse on Friday before coming to Eau Claire. Bethel opened its season last Saturday with an 8-1 loss to Carleton.

On the singles side, Lars Olson (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) leads the way for the Blugolds with a 10-1 overall record. He remains undefeated playing at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 with 1-0, 1-0 and 7-0 records, respectively. Erik Brandner (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) is also having a good season and has an 8-1 overall record this year. He is 1-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and 6-1 at No. 4. Brett Burleigh (Fr.-Verona, Wis.) is also undefeated at No. 6 singles with a 4-0 record and has accumulated a 6-1 record to this point.

Phil Loprinzi (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Steve Lantz (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Century) have played well together this season at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 overall record. At No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, C.J. Rose (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) and Eric Wollum (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) are undefeated this season with 2-0 records in each category and are 4-0 this season.
