MEN’S TENNIS BLANKS MINNESOTA STATE-MANKATO
ST. PETER, MN – For the second time in three days the UW-Eau Claire men’s tennis team defeated a Division II school from Minnesota, this time defeating Minnesota State-Mankato 9-0 here today at the Swanson Tennis Center. With the win the Blugolds won two of three matches over the weekend and improve to 3-4 overall. The Mavericks fell to 1-2 for the year with the loss. The Blugolds dominated singles play winning each match in straight sets. Tim Eisele (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN) lost just one game defeating Drew Stein at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0. Steve Lantz (So.-Rochester, MN/Century) continued the Blugold dominance losing just two games defeating Ryan Fredrickson at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0. Aaron Nordenskjold (Sr.-Red Wing, MN) went to a tiebreaker in the second match to beat Mitch Johnson at No. 3 singles 6-2, 7-6 (3-0). Erik Brandner (Jr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) beat John Julian at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-4. Brett Gressick (Jr.-De Pere) defeated Jake Ruzsa at No. 5 singles 6-2, 7-5 and Jeff Peterson (Sr.-Edina, MN) closed out singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Adam Doll at No. 6 singles. In doubles play the Blugolds lost just six games in three matches as they ran through doubles play. The pairings of Eisele/Lantz and Nordenskjold/Phil Loprinzi (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) each recorded 8-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. At No. 3 doubles the duo of Peterson and C.J. Rose (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/Apple Valley) defeated Hoff/Doll 8-4. Next the Blugolds travel to Decorah, Iowa where they will compete in three dual meets beginning with Augustana (IL) on Friday, February 16. Action is set to begin at 6:00 P.M. Final Results
