MEN'S TENNIS COMPETES AT ITA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
ST. PETER, MN - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team participated today in the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Tournament held at Gustavus Adolphus. The regional tournament features the top 20 schools in the region, which includes 92 of the top singles and doubles players in the Midwest. The winners of the singles and doubles flights advance to the ITA National Small College Championships held in Florida. The Blugolds started out the day well in singles play winning three out of the five first round matches they participated in. Jeff Peterson (Jr.-Edina, MN) won his first round match in a tight three-setter, 7-5, 4-6, (10-4). Steve Lantz (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) cruised in his match winning 6-0, 6-0. C.J. Rose (So.-Apple Valley, MN) was the other Blugold member to win his first round singles match winning 6-0, 6-3. With the addition of Aaron Nordenskjold (Jr.-Red Wing, MN), who had a first round bye, the Blugolds had four participants in the second round. Unfortunately, all were unable to advance to round three. In doubles, the Blugolds had similar success winning two out of the three first round matches they participated in. The doubles team of Peterson and Rose were victorious in their first round match, winning 8-5. The other duo to win was the team of Tim Eisele (So.-Apple Valley, MN) and Steve Lantz, who won by a score of 8-5. However, just like in singles neither team was able to advance to the third round.
