MEN'S TENNIS SPLITS AT CARLETON INVITATIONAL

OWATONNA, MN - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team split its two matches on the day defeating Central (IA) 4-3 before being defeated by host Carleton (MN) 6-3 at the three-team Carleton Invitational held here today at Owatonna Tennis Center.

Against Central College, the Blugolds picked up wins in four of the six singles matches that gave the team the victory. Jake Znidarsich (So.-La Crosse, WI/Central) at No.2 singles won his match in a tough three-setter, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9. Erik Brandner (So.Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) at No.4 singles and Kevin Fawcett (Fr.-Madison, WI/Verona) at No. 6 singles also won their matches in three-sets.

No.3 singles player Steve Lantz (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Century) was the other Blugold singles player to win as he won in straight sets. The only doubles team to win was the No.2 team of Znidarsich and Aaron Nordenskjold (Jr.-Red Wing, MN), who won 8-3.

In the night cap the Blugolds were unable to upset the host Knights, who entered the day ranked ninth in the region, who won the dual 6-3. Lantz completed the day undefeated in singles play defeating Brendan Cooper in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. Jeff Peterson (Jr.-Edina, MN) won his only singles match in exciting action defeating Jordan Hughes 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 6 singles. The Blugold team of Peterson and C.J. Rose (So.-Apple Valley, MN) defeated Carleton's Hughes/Thoen at No. 3 doubles 8-3.

Next, the Blugolds will travel to face Gustavus Adolphus next Saturday with action beginning at 6:30 p.m.
