MEN'S TENNIS OPENS WEEKEND WITH VICTORY OVER WHITEWATER

LA CROSSE - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team opened the UW-La Crosse Duals with a 5-2 victory over UW-Whitewater here today at the Nielsen Courts.

In singles play the Blugolds won four of six matches led by Matt Widder (Jr.-Sheboygan Falls) with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Greg Iserman at the No. 2 singles position. Other Blugold straight set victories came from Tyler Litscher (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-4 and Bob Hartman (Fr.-McFarland) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Chris Slagle (So.-St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) came back from a 1-0 to defeat Ross Johnson 6-7, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles flight.

Double play saw Slagle and Ryan Gruhlke (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) handle Iserman/Michael Salentine 8-2 at No. 2 doubles while the tandem of Hartman/Litscher defeated Matt Griffiths/Johnson 8-6.

Tomorrow the Blugolds square off against UW-Oshkosh at 9:00 A.M. and close out the day facing host UW-La Crosse at 1:00 P.M.
