DAY ONE OF STEVENS POINT INVITE COMPLETE FOR SWIMMING

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming teams were in action Friday night, competing in day one of the two day UW-Stevens Point Invite.

On the women’s side, Eau Claire is in seventh place out of eight teams with 108 points. The University of North Dakota is currently in first with 326, followed by UW-La Crosse with 298 points.

The Blugold men finished Friday night scoring 91 and are in seventh place out of seven teams. Leading the way on the men’s side is Gustavus Adolphus with 329 points. UW-Stevens Point is right in the hunt for first place, however, with 322 points.

Both Blugold teams had some swimmers in the top ten in a few events. Each team also had relay teams that finished seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay.

For the women, Angie Bakula (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./West) swam to a ninth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:25.95. In the 100-yard backstroke, Alyssa Trainor (Fr.-Winona, Minn./Cotter) finished ninth with a time of 1:04.20.

On the men’s side, Jon Poppele (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) took a sixth place finish with a time of 2:19.63 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The meet concludes Saturday in Stevens Point. The day’s events are set to begin at 9 a.m.
