SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS TAKE TOP PLACE IN UNIQUE EVENT
EAU CLAIRE - Today in the Midwest Co-ed Relay Meet, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams claimed first place out of four teams. The Blugolds totaled 80 points on the day. UW-Oshkosh came in second with 58, while Webster University's 42 followed finished third. UW-River Falls was in fourth while having a 38 point performance. The opening home meet allowed for men and women to compete on the same team and relay. On the diving boards, Scott Heatwole (Sr.-Port Washington) and Adeline Hermanson (Fr.-Spring Lake Park, MN) finished first on the mixed 1-meter and mixed 3-meter, scoring 218.30 and 217.15 respectively. In the mixed 400-yard butterfly relay, the team of Annie Gorman (Sr.-Menominee), Brian Hauerwas (So.-Racine/Case), Sarah Fisher (So.-Milton) and Cale Schmidt-Jackson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) claimed first with a 4:07.57 time. Emmie Lee (So.-Zimmerman, MN/Elk River) took over Gorman's spot for the mixed 400-yard backstroke relay to take the top spot in 4:14.93. Gorman, Nick Peterson (Jr.-Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul), Emily Viau (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN/Eastview), and Patrick Finley (Fr.-Waunakee) were champs in the mixed 800-yard freestyle relay. Their time was 8:00.92. In the mixed 400-yard breaststroke relay, the foursome of Emily Diehl (So.-Prairie du Sac/Sauk Prairie), Schmidt-Jackson, Jenna Spicer (Fr.-Hastings, MN) and Peter Schultz (Fr.-Oakdale, MN/North) swam a 4:37.47 race to take first. Also taking first were Lee, Hauerwas, Spicer, Schmidt-Jackson, Alissa Condra (Jr.-Rhinelander), Clark Draxler (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial), Cori Severson (Sr.-Brainerd, MN), and Finley in the mixed 400-yard medley relay. They had a 3:44.39 race. In the winning mixed 200-yard freestyle relay were Severson, Bill Peterson (Fr.- Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul), Kyle Welke (So.-Eau Claire/North), and Brian Schwartz (Jr.-Bemidji, MN) as the swam it in 1:38.21. In 4:11.74, the team of Diehl, Brian Jordan (So.-Madison/West), Gorman, and Schmidt-Jackson won the mixed 400-yard medley individual relay. Finally, the group of Severson, Peterson, Gorman, and Finley topped all at the mixed 400-yard freestyle relay. The next event for swimming and diving is the meet against MSU-Mankato next Friday.
