MEN’S BASKETBALL PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF SEASON

BARABOO, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball team got in the win column tonight with an 87-67 win over Hamline University (MN) in the first day of the Wisconsin Dells Classic.

Eau Claire moves to 1-2 on the season while Hamline drops to 0-2.

The Blugolds led at half 39-30, but outscored the Pipers 48-37 in the second. In the end, they outshot Hamline 58.7 percent-to-34.8 percent from the floor. They went 5-of-9 on threes for 55.6 percent while the Pipers shot 25 percent. The Blugolds also made it to the line often tonight, making 28-of-39 for 71.8 percent.

The defense showed up for Eau Claire, forcing 23 turnovers and blocking 10 shots.

Ryan Shea (Fr.-Duluth, MN/East) had three of those blocks. He also led the Blugolds in points at 19 and was tied for the lead in rebounds with six. Colin Boone (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) had 13 points while Dan Beyer (Sr.-Waukesha/Catholic Memorial) put up 11. Geoff Probst (So.-Moose Lake, MN) was the other with six rebounds.

The Blugolds will next play tomorrow in day two of the Wisconsin Dells Classic. They face Finlandia University (MI) at 3 p.m.
