GYMNASTS TAKE SECOND AT UW-STOUT TRIANGULAR

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team took second place out of three teams competing at UW-Stout tonight.

UW-La Crosse finished in first place with a score of 183.275. The Blugolds had their second highest score of the season with a 176.250 for the second place finish. Stout finished third with a score of 175.075.

The highest finisher of the night for the Blugolds was Anna Sutherland (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville), taking second place on the vault. She scored a 9.500, her highest score of the season in the event, which also ties her career-high. La Crosse’s Gabi Hooper won the event with a 9.625.

Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) finished sixth on the floor exercise with a season high 9.075. Kerri Ritsche (Fr.-South Range, Wis./Superior) finished one place lower than Olson, tying UW-Stout’s Meghan Hargens for seventh place with a score of 8.975, also a season-high and career-high for Ritsche. UW-Stout’s Naomi DeLara won the event with a score of 9.425.

Ritsche and Olson were also the highest finishers for the Blugolds on the balance beam. The teammates tied each other with an 8.750 for an eighth place finish. The 8.750 represents a career-high score for Ritsche. Taking first on the beam was UW-La Crosse’s Kasey Clausen with a score of 9.575.

Brittany Adams (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) was the highest Blugold finisher on the uneven bars, in sixth place with a score of 8.975, her second best score of the season. Samantha Howard (So.-St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley), Lauren Strecker (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) and Olson also did well in the event finishing in seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Howard had the second best score of her career on the bars, an 8.750. Kasey Clausen of UW-La Crosse won the event with a score of 9.550.

Olson also had a fourth place finish in the all-around competition. She scored a season-high 35.575, while Ritsche placed sixth in the all-around with a 35.050. Sutherland also took eighth in the all-around with a score of 34.850.

Up next the Blugolds will be back at home to take on UW-Whitewater. The meet will start at 7 p.m. next Friday in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
