GYMNASTICS DROPS HOME DUAL MEET TO WINONA STATE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team suffered their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet loss against Winona State University in the McPhee Physical Education Center tonight.

The Winona State Warriors were too much for the Blugolds, taking home a winning score of 179.275 while Eau Claire scored 175.400. The Blugolds are now 10-11 on the season while the Warriors improve to 6-3.

Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) led Eau Claire tonight, taking third in the all-around. Behind a second place finish with a score of 8.950 on the floor exercise, an eighth place finish with a 8.775 on the balance beam, a fifth place finish on the uneven bars with a score of 8.725 and an 11th place finish with a score of 8.750 on the vault, she totaled 35.200 overall. Her score of 8.950 on the floor exercise is a season high.

Kerri Ritsche (Fr.-South Range, WI/Superior), Samantha Howard (So.-St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley) and Anna Sutherland (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville) also took fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the all-around. Sutherland was the highest finisher for the Blugolds on the vault with a score of 9.175.

On the uneven bars and balance beam, Brittany Adams (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) was the highest Blugold finisher. She finished in second place, scoring 9.000 on the bars, also her highest score of the season in the event, and seventh on the balance beam with a score of 8.850.

The Blugolds will next travel to Menomonie for a triangular meet against UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. next Friday.
