GYMNASTICS SET TO HOST WINONA STATE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team will host Winona State University in its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet of the season this Thursday.

Eau Claire faced Winona State last weekend in a triangular meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus. The Blugolds took third, finishing less than two points behind Winona, which placed second.

In last week’s meet, Kristi Olson (Sr.-Minnetonka, Minn.) took home first place in the all-around competition with a score of 35.500, her highest all-around score of the season. Olson will look to improve even more this week, as last week was her first full meet in two weeks because of an injury suffered in the Blugolds’ meet in California.

Freshman Lauren Strecker (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) also had an impressive performance last week with a second place finish on the floor exercise. Samantha Howard (So.-St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley), Kerri Ritsche (Fr.-South Range, WI/Superior) and Anna Sutherland (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville) have also performed well this season for the Blugolds. The three finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively in last week’s triangular meet in the all-around.

The meet against Winona is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
