MORRIS TIES FOR FIRST IN BALANCE BEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lynn Morris (Fr.-Monticell, IN/Twin Lakes) became only the second Blugold ever to win an individual championship when she tied for first place in the balance beam at the 2003 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Gymnastics Championships held here today at the McPhee Phy. Ed. Center.

Until today Eau Claire hadn't had an individual champion since Julie Hardtke took first in the balance beam in 1985. Morris opened up with a 9.525 on her first routine and followed that up with a score of 9.575 in the second round for a final tally of 19.100. Her second round score of 9.575 set the school record in the event.

Morris also competed in the uneven bars where she garnered All-American honors with her fourth place finish. She finished with a total score of 18.550 with her second round score of 9.325 also setting the school record.

Alison Eagles (So.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) finished fourth in the vault with her final tally of 18.700. The fourth place finish was good enough to earn All-American honors. Eagles also competed in the uneven bars where she finished tenth with a score of 18.150.

Jessica Pink (Sr.-Monticello, MN) was the other Blugold to compete when she participated in the vault competition. Pink tied her career-high with her second round score of 9.300 to finish seventh in the event with a total of 18.575.

With their efforts today, Morris and Eagles became the first two Blugolds ever to receive All-American honors since the advent of the award in 1987. Erin Henrich (Sr.-Spring Valley) and Lara Harris (Sr.-Franksville/Racine Case) each earned Academic All-American honors for their efforts in the classroom.
