Lisa McIntyre enters her eighth season as the head women's gymnastics coach at UW-Eau Claire. During her tenure, the Blugolds have broken every individual (vault, bars, balance beam and floor exercise) and team (four score and five score) record in school history, including four of five individual records being set this past season.
The 2002-03 season was highlighted by several team and individual accomplishments. At the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships the Blugolds finished second behind eventual national champion UW-La Crosse. The finish marked the highest team finish in school history and the team score of 180.325 marked the first time any Blugold gymnastics team broke the 180-point plateau. The Blugolds qualified as a team for the 2003 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championships and finished fifth, tying the highest team finish ever done during the 1983-84 and 1981-82 seasons.
Several individual milestones where also established throughout the 2002-03 campaign. Alison Eagles became the first All-Around champion in school history as she took overall honors in addition to being the first Blugold to win top honors on the vault since 1982 at the 2003 WIAC Championships. Freshman Lynn Morris tied for the national title in the beam while finishing fourth in the bars at the 2003 NCGA Championships. Eagles finished third in the vault and all-around while Kristina Reitzel achieved All-American status with a 10th place finish in the all-around.
McIntyre began her gymnastics career at the age of four in a gymnastics class held at a high school in Plymouth, MN. After stints in Minnesota and Illinois, McIntyre arrived in Texas where she trained for three years with Scott Crouse in an elite program at Texas Academy in Ft. Worth. During this time, she toured the country with the 1984 U.S. men's and women's Olympic teams. Following that training, she enrolled at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, TX, where she competed for the next three years. During her prep career, she was an All American; broke state event records; became state champion on vault, uneven parallel bars, beam and floor exercise; was a member of three state championship teams and a national championship team. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a gymnastics scholarship and received a bachelor of science degree in zoology in December 1992.
McIntyre has several years of coaching experience with various gymnastics teams and clubs. While attending college at UW-Madison, she coached Levels 5-10 at the Badger Gymnastics Academy in Madison, WI. Prior coming to Eau Claire, she supervised 10 coaches training 256 athletes at Gymnastics for the Future in Dayton, OH. In the summertime, McIntyre coaches at a several camps including the UWEC Gymnastics, Swim and Dance Camps, Lake Owen Gymnastics Camp and the National Youth Sports Program Camp. She currently directs and instructs a children's gymnastics program for children between the ages of 2-12 at UW-Eau Claire.
