The Department of Art & Design sponsors annual field trips under faculty supervision to the Twin Cities, Chicago, and New York. These non-required trips offer students an opportunity to visit some of the nation's finest museums and private galleries. Also available is foreign field-study to all European cultural centers and Japan. Credit toward graduation may be earned on such trips.
In the past decade, students have had the oportunity to meet and listen to internationally recognized artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, George Segal, William Wiley, Sue Cole, Neda Al Hilali, Toshiko Takaezu, Robert Turner, Karl Wirsum, Chaim Gross, Robert Stackhouse, and Olga d'Amaral, among others. These artists often display their work and allow students to see their latest and finest paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, prints, drawings, design and fiber art currently being produced.
Students in advanced courses in the graphic design program get both valuable experiences and printed materials for their portfolios working on public and private design projects. For advanced students, internships and directed studies courses are available to enhance learning beyond the classroom
