Advising Guidelines
Advising guidelines are available in the Department Office.
Additional B.F.A. Requirements are available as well.
1. Students must spend the first one to two years in the Comprehensive
B.A. or B.S. degree program before applying for admission to the
B.F.A. degree program. To apply, students must pass the BFA
Review by meeting the following requirements:
a. Have a gradepoint average of 3.00; complete at least 24
credits, but not more than 36 credits in studio courses including
Art 107, 108, 109, 110; complete at least six credits, but not more than
12 credits, in the Area of Emphasis*.
b. Submit the BFA Review Application and the portfolio to
the BFA Review Committee. The committee assesses the quality of the portfolio and makes a decision on admission to the B.F.A. program. The committee will discuss
the results of the review with the student and provide the results
in writing. Students who do not pass the review may reapply or
remain in the B.A. or B.S. degree program.
2. After admission to the B.F.A. program, students must complete
at least 36 credits and maintain a 3.0 gradepoint average in art
and art history courses. Portfolio Review Guidelines are available
in the Art Department Office.
*NOTE: Transfer students and others, who have earned more than
42 credits, may petition to the Art Department Chair to be eligible.

Portfolio Requirement
All art majors are required to develop a portfolio containing
selected examples of their work in order to participate in the
Foundations, Junior, and Senior Reviews. These reviews are established
to help advise and assess the development of student work. The
Junior Review serves as the entrance requirement into the B.F.A.
degree program. Portfolio Review Guidelines are available in the
Art Department Office.
Art Education Requirements
Students who wish to earn Comprehensive Art Teaching licensure in addition to the B.F.A. degree must complete additional credits in education (54 cr.) , psychology (4 cr.), communications (3 cr.), as well as: Art 244, 249, 264, 281, 312, 357, 367 and Art History 324 or 335. They must be admitted to the School of Education which is competitive and requires a resident and total GPA of 2.75 or better, have a C or better in English 110, and have passed the Praxis I (PPST) and the Praxis II exams.
