Nursing professors receive national honors
| Two
faculty members from UW-Eau Claire's department of nursing
systems recently received national honors. In recognition
of her exceptional achievements in nursing education, professor
CeCelia Zorn has been named the 2002 Carnegie Foundation
for the Advancement of Teaching Wisconsin Professor of the
Year (read
the full story). Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher, professor
and department chair, received one of the nursing profession's
highest honors when she was inducted as a fellow into the
American Academy of Nursing (read

Feingold to speak on human rights
U.S. Sen. Russell Feingold will
speak at a Human Rights Day forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec.12,
in Schofield Auditorium. As a member of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, Feingold works to make human rights
concerns a higher priority in U.S. foreign policy. The Humans
Rights Day forum, hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Chapter of
Amnesty International, is an annual event to honor the adoption
of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and the
founding of Amnesty International. Feingold will speak on
“The Importance of Human Rights Since September 11th.”
The forum, to be followed by a short reception, is free

Grant to help increase
environmental and public health online courses
A grant from the
Centers for Disease Control is helping UW-Eau Claire to
increase its online courses available to students seeking
a master's degree in environmental and public health. Of
a $246,668 grant awarded to the Wisconsin Department of
Health and Family Services for building environmental health
services in the state, UW-Eau Claire, as one of Wisconsin's
four contractual providers, is receiving $90,176 over three
years to enhance its environmental and public health program.

Concerts to feature original composition by alumnus
The UW-Eau
Claire music and theatre arts department and the UW-Eau
Claire Foundation will present the 28th annual Holiday
Concerts at 2 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in Zorn Arena.

debut performance of “Blizzard Christmas Suite,”
which UW-Eau Claire alumnus Mark McKenzie derived
from the score he has composed for the movie “Blizzard,”
to be released in November 2003. In addition to his
gift of “Blizzard Christmas Suite,” McKenzie
and his wife, Susan, a 1978 UW-Eau Claire music therapy
graduate, have given a financial gift to the UW-Eau
Claire Foundation to establish the Baker, Cunningham
and Lunde Music Composition Fund. Read

Winterim session scheduled for January
Winterim has been
a part of the academic calendar at UW-Eau Claire since 1996,
when only 13 courses were offered. The 2003 Winterim session
will offer nearly 60 classroom courses and two Web-based
courses during a three-week session that runs Jan. 2-17.
Most classes meet every day for three hours, and all classes
will meet Saturday, Jan. 4. Currently enrolled students
and special students — including those not currently
enrolled at UW-Eau Claire — can register for Winterim
courses until Dec. 27. For more information, call the Registration

Marten
Transport hosts Mondovi alumni event
Forty UW-Eau Claire alumni
from the Mondovi area attended an Alumni Association
event Nov. 18 at Marten Transport, Mondovi. The group
enjoyed a pizza buffet and a university update from
Chancellor Donald Mash. UW-Eau
Claire alumnus Randy Marten '74 (below right), Marten
Transport's president and CEO, led a tour of the company
his father founded in 1946.

Tribute to Champions
Players from 14
conference championship Blugold teams will be honored during
UW-Eau Claire's Tribute to Champions on Saturday, Jan. 25,
at UW-Eau Claire. The following championship teams will
be recognized as they celebrate their 30th, 25th, 20th,
15th and 10th anniversaries: women's swimming, 1983, 1988
and 1993; men's swimming, 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988 and 1993;
men's tennis, 1978; men's golf, 1988 and 1992; women's volleyball,
1987; men's basketball, 1973; and women's basketball, 1993.

online.) The day's events will include the women's and men's
alumni basketball games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively,
in Zorn Arena; a 3 p.m. "Tailgate Party" for alumni
and friends in the Spruce-Tamarack Room, Davies Center;
and the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's basketball "doubleheader"
against UW-Stout (men's game at 5 p.m., women's game at

Art trip to New York
Alumni and friends
are invited to join the UW-Eau Claire art department's annual
spring trip to New York March 14-23, 2003. The trip is an
opportunity for students, faculty, alumni and friends to
explore art, music, theater, food and the sights of Manhattan
and the Burroughs. The cost of the trip — $500 with
student ID (quads), $550 for all others (quads) or $750
for doubles — includes round-trip motor coach transportation
and seven nights in a mid-town hotel within blocks of Central

TV-10 alumni formal
A TV-10 formal for alumni once
involved with the UW-Eau Claire campus television station
will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2003. A 6:30 p.m. dinner
will be followed by a dance from 8-12 p.m. Tickets are $20
and will go on sale beginning Feb. 1. For more information,
