Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." 20 U.S.C § 1681(a).
Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities that receive financial support from the Federal government. Under Title IX, discrimination based on sex includes sexual harassment, sexual violence, and sexual assault. Title IX also prohibits retaliation against individuals who complain or participate in an investigation regarding an alleged Title IX violation.
UW-Eau Claire Title IX Policy:
In compliance with Title IX, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire does not discriminate on the basis of sex in employment or in educational programs or activities. It is our goal to maintain an environment free from harassment and discrimination. We proactively address sexual harassment, sexual assault , dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking and have established a system for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and grievances arising under Title IX.
Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator
Teresa O'Halloran, Affirmative Action Officer, is the Title IX Coordinator for UW-Eau Claire. She has primary responsibility for coordinating Title IX compliance efforts, including oversight of implementation and monitoring of Title IX policy; coordination of training, education, and communications; and administration of grievance procedures regarding sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual assault.
Joseph Abhold, Dean of Students, is the Deputy Title IX Coordinator responsible for receiving complaints against students.
