I primarily work with undeclared students.
I was born and raised in Rochester, MN. After graduating from Mayo High School I attended UW – Eau Claire and graduated with a BS in biology. I then went to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and earned a M.A. in Secondary Teaching. My first job was as a biology teacher at my former high school. It was a little weird, but fun, to teach with my former teachers! I then crossed the border and gained experience in a variety of positions including: Upward Bound Advisor, Career Counselor at UW – Stevens Point, and service learning instructor at Globe University. Although varied, all of these positions have taught me that a student centered career is the best fit for me. I love working with students to help them grow and develop their educational goals.
I enjoy outdoors activities such as camping, hiking, skiing, running and anything else that gets me into nature. As a runner, I enjoy some healthy competition and like to participate in local races. I also love to cook and experiment with new and exciting recipes – especially vegetarian. When possible, I like to travel and spend time in new places. While at UW – Eau Claire I studied abroad in Scotland. Since then I've traveled to Western Europe, Alaska, Belize, and to a variety of places around the U.S.
Were you undeclared?
No, but I probably should have been. I came in as a biology major and never changed my mind. I wanted to be a veterinarian but didn't take myself seriously enough to be competitive. I remember the exact spot I was my senior year when I realized I didn't have a game plan after graduation. But it all worked out! If you had asked me back then if I'd be doing what I am now, I never would have guessed it. Every experience, good and bad, has prepared me for today. Being undeclared is a good thing…explore, dream, discover!
I make all natural plant based soap; it allows me to get my creative energy out while at the same time making something everyone loves. I think it all started with the purchase of a soap making book and it's been a slight obsession ever since!
