Special Students
Special Students are students who missed the deadlines for regular admission or students who only want to take classes, and not get a degree from UW Eau Claire--i.e., a teacher taking coursework to maintain certification. Sometimes people want to "try out" the university as a special student, prior to deciding if they want to apply for full admission. In other cases, it is to establish a current college track record of success prior to applying for acceptance with the Admissions Office for full admission.
- Special students are limited to a maximum of six credits or two classes
per semester and may accumulate no more than 29 credits. After reaching the 29-credit limit, students typically apply for admission.
The credits and GPA earned as a Special Student will count the same as they do for an Admitted Student.
- Special Students are not eligible for the regular sources of state and federal
financial aid. However, they may apply for the Returning Student Grant through the Nontraditional Student Services Office. Which may cover partial tuition for a one 3-credit undergraduate course. Special Students are also eligible to work on campus as a non-federal work-study student.
- Special Students receive advising through the Academic Advising office in Schofield
226, 836-3487 and through the Nontraditional Student Services Office in Schofield 226, 836-3259.
- Special Students register a few days before classes begin each semester. This means course selection is limited.
- Special Students should check the
2009-2010 Registration Calendar for exact registration dates for Fall, Winterim, Spring, and Summer sessions.
- Special students can register for Spring 2010 classes starting January 22, 2010.
- Prior to registration, Special Students must turn in an
Undergraduate
Special Student Application to Registration, Schofield 128. A minimum down payment of $100 must be received by the Cashier's Office, Schofield 108, prior to registration and a Partial Payment Agreement form must be signed and on file.
