Duties:
I am the director of Advising and New Student Initiatives. I have lots of administrative responsibilities, but my first love is working with undeclared students.
Background:
I was born and raised in New York (Long Island). I have a B.A. in History from the College of Wooster in Ohio and an M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Pennsylvania. I have been advising undecided students since before most of my students were born. So obviously I must like what I do! I have taught American History, Women’s History and Black history. I have two children who graduated from UW-Madison. My husband teaches in the History department here.
Interests:
I spend a lot of my spare time working to help people in need and/or with social justice issues. I am on the board of the Feed My People Food Bank and work on fair trades sales. I’m also a huge Twins fan and a Badger fan.
Were you undeclared?
No, I was always interested in a history major. However, I would never have thought about being an academic adviser. And I believe that all students should explore and expand their interests while in college. Being honest with yourself and admitting you don’t know what you want to do is a really important and brave thing to do!
Something fun!
I love stuffed animals. While my office is full of ducks (ask me to explain that when you come in), my real love is stuffed bears.
