Year in School: Senior
Hometown: Richland Center, WI
Any comment on the residence halls experience? I am currently living off-campus with the friends I made my freshman year in the dorms. They are some of the best friends I have ever had and I have the residence community to thank for meeting them. Overall, living in a residence hall my freshman and sophomore year was the best choice for me. It was not only convenient for meeting up with friends, but it also helped me become more independent and appreciate living in a house much more than I did before!
What activities/organizations are you involved in? Campus Ambassadors, Blugold Beginnings, National Student Exchange, Psi Chi, Psychology Club
Where do you work during school? Telefund through the UWEC Foundation, calling alumni for donations
Best place to study: 4th floor in the library-one of the silent floors!
Best thing/place to eat on campus: Pacific Traders stir fry-you can put whatever you want in it and they make it right in front of you. So delicious!
Favorite activity/place off-campus: Big Falls – so much fun in the summer
Favorite activity/place on-campus: Intramural sports- I was on a champion sand volleyball team my freshman year. It's a great way to meet people and have a really great time.
Best class so far : Family and Intimate Relationships – Teaches you information that you can use in real-life relationships, learn about yourself and your family, gives you great conversation starters
Best professor: April Bleske-Rechek (Psychology) She takes the time to get to know her students and is always enthusiastic about what she's teaching. I haven't met one student that hasn't enjoyed her as a professor!
Best thing about being a student at UWEC: Opportunities! There are so many opportunities available to the students here. You just need to go out and find them-they're waiting for you!
Best reason to stay up until 2a.m.: Jeff and Jims Pizza still delivers! Buy one pizza get one pizza free every day of the week!
Why did you pick UWEC? It felt the most like home. It wasn't too big or too small. I love the close-knit campus and the size of Eau Claire.
Best advice for getting the most out of college: Take classes that interest you, but might not necessarily match with your major. That's when you are the most engaged in the class and learn some of the most interesting things. UWEC does a great job of encouraging this with their liberal arts education goals. Go ahead business majors, take an art class! Biology majors-take a poltical science class! You never know what you might discover.
Best Blugold tradition/event: CUBEfest for freshman coming into the residence halls. Lots of free food and a great way to meet other freshman!
Best memory/experience in college so far: Spending a semester in Los Angeles, California through National Student Exchange. I didn't know this program existed until I came to UWEC. It is a great alternative to study abroad. I made some great friends and saw some amazing places! Check it out!
