Activities/Orgs: I have been involved in the Honors Program, Student/Faculty Collaborative Research (on rocks), Campus Ambassadors, and I studied abroad in Lancaster, England. I'm also an academic apprentice for two geology classes. Basically I love school!
What's on your Ipod right now: Little known fact about Audrey; I don't have an Ipod! If I did, I'd be listening to The Fray everyday.
What's the best thing to do in your free time: Grab a tube, raft, pool, anything you can float on and float down the river for a few hours— ideally when it's warm outside of course!
Favorite place on campus: The CAMPUS MALL! Four words: music, food, friends, frisbee... what more could you want from the most beautiful campus!?!
One thing students MUST experience as a Blugold: Besides the hill or footbridge, every Blugold should be on their feet at a Blugold hockey game cheering our team on!
Best thing/place to eat on campus: I love the shakes at the Bluplate Diner. They get me everytime.
Have you had any celebrity encounters: I saw David Cook (American Idol winner) in concert on campus last year!
Best class/professor so far: Environmental Geology with Kent Syverson. I learned a lot about Eau Claire, the state of Wisconsin and my own interests. There's more to rocks than meets the eye :)
Best reason to stay up until 2a.m.: If you want to stay up late, go to the Viennese Ball held on campus. The Davies Center is transformed into mini Vienna with great things to eat (you have to try the torte) and two huge rooms for polkas, waltzes, tango and swing. I have gone every year since my freshman year and there is always something new. (Girls, if you go, you can wear your old prom dresses!)
Why did you pick UWEC? Deciding which college to go to was a hard choice for me. However, I really liked UWEC for the marching band and forensics team that I wanted to get involved in. UW-Eau Claire also has a great study abroad program and when I took my tour, it just seemed like a good fit for me. What I really loved, was that you don’t see a bunch of parking lots on your way to class. It was grass and trees and I liked that much more than pavement and cars.
Best advice for getting the most out of college: Don’t ever count yourself out. There is so much to see, learn and do. If something sounds remotely interesting, go for it!
Best memory/experience in college so far: I’ve had great experiences on campus, but my best college memory was studying abroad in Lancaster, England. At first it was a big challenge and a lot to adjust to, but I got the chance to travel all over Europe! I made friends with people from Australia and Wales and am really thankful for the opportunity to expand my horizons. I highly recommend studying abroad no matter where you go to college!
