What experiences stand out at UW-Eau Claire?
My best experiences in the Chemistry department have undoubtedly come through my time doing research. Research has afforded me both unique educational experiences in the lab, including training in powerful instrumental techniques and the chance to work one-on-one with a knowledgeable faculty member, as well as the opportunity to build relationships with my peers within the department.
What are you researching?
I research a peptide-derived, copper-chelating molecule named methanobactin. Methanobactins are secreted by the environmentally important methanotrophic bacteria- bacteria who metabolize the greenhouse gas methane as their primary source of carbon and energy.
Do you get paid to do research?
Have you done any UWEC- related field trips/study abroad experiences?
This summer, I traveled to Costa Rica and Panama on a medical volunteer trip with other UWEC Students through a Central American organization called VIDA (Volunteers for Definitive Adventures). We were fortunate to be able to provide free medical, dental, and veterinary care to hundreds of Central Americans.
