Music is alive and well at
UW-Eau Claire

UW-Eau Claire boasts the largest undergrad music program in the UW System. We are home to the nation's largest Division III marching band, the largest jazz festival in the nation, 375+ music majors, 160+ concerts/events each year, and hundreds of students who just love to develop their musical talent.

Practice makes excellence

Students have ample opportunities to perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles. Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in productions like the long-running Cabaret, that is student directed. Other opportunities include the Marching Band and student organizations that are associated with professional organizations with a national affiliation. Each year the department presents more than 160 concerts and recitals, including the

ever-popular Viennese Ball and Holiday Concert.

Off campus and across continents

Music ensembles have performed from coast to coast in the U.S., toured Europe, traveled to China and even performed for Pope Benedict XVI and an estimated crowd of 100,000 people in Rome.

Get personal

Our outstanding faculty of performers and composers and music educators are proud of the individual attention they give their students. You’ll learn in small class settings and get lots of one-on-one attention from professors who inspire learning and truly want you to succeed. There are numerous faculty-student collaborative research opportunities.

And the award goes to:

Several UW-Eau Claire ensembles have acquired national and international reputations. Jazz Ensemble I is a six-time winner of Down Beat magazine’s “Best College Big Band” award, nominee for two Grammys, is heralded by New York Times as one of the best jazz studies program in the country!
