What activities/organizations are you involved in: Study abroad in Costa Rica, Campus Ambassadors, and Student Impact (part of Campus Crusade for Christ).

Where will you live in the fall:
Off-campus for the first time in a duplex with 7 of my girlfriends.

Any comment on the residence halls experience: By living in the residence halls I made my best friends and future roommates.  There is never a dull moment when living in the dorms!  I’ve also had the experience of being a resident assistant and helping students feel more at home!

Best place to study:  The 3rd floor of the library by the windows!  The library has five floors and it gets quieter on each floor as you go higher… so it’s obvious I haven’t ventured any higher than 3rd floor :)

Best place to eat in Eau Claire: Jade Garden, hands-down.  All-you-can-eat Chinese buffet (do you see a common trend in my life?).

Favorite activity/place off-campus: A coffee house called, The Goat.  It’s a fun place to meet up with a friend or study and it’s a close walk from campus!  May I recommend the pumpkin spice cookies and their original blend of coffee!?!

Favorite activity/place on-campus: Either The Cabin or Bowling and Billiards Center (BBC).  The Cabin is a quaint place to enjoy some live music and support a friend or up and coming artist.  Otherwise, the BBC offers great deals on bowling; so even if you have talent like me (or lack there of) it’s still a blast!

Best class so far: Latin American Studies 150; a survey class of Latin America.  It was great because every week we learned something new: history, literature, politics, art, health sciences, etc.

Best professor: Professor Carter Smith!  He has a clear passion for Spanish and teaching so he makes class time pass quickly.  He encouraged us so much and made it clear he was available for help.  He truly wanted to see us succeed!

Best thing about being a student at UWEC:  There is ALWAYS something going on! Just keep your eyes and ears open.  If I had to pick just one event though, it would be our Viennese Ball held every spring.  I went this year for the first time and it was indescribable.  Everyone gets a chance to dress up and dance the waltz, polka, or swing.

Why did you pick UWEC: I knew I wanted to study abroad and UWEC offers so many different programs.  You can live in a dorm, apartment, with a host family (that’s what I did!) or in a castle!  I went with a group from UWEC and the semester gave me something a classroom couldn’t have taught me.

Best advice for getting the most out of college:  Get involved right away!  That’s how I met my best friends and it’s how I incorporate fun into school life.  Careful though, you’re not superman/superwoman :) You can’t get too many logs in the fire; manage your time wisely!
