Hometown: Platteville, WI
Year: Junior
Major: Math w/ an Actuarial Science
emphasis & Physics
What activities/organizations have you been involved in? I’ve been involved with undergraduate research, Campus Ambassadors, and the Actuarial Club.
Best class so far (and why): Math 346; it’s a probability course and I found it very interesting on how different scenarios relate to particular probability distributions, and the math behind it all.
Best professor (and why): Physics professor Matt Evans. I feel like I never yawned in his class…he keeps it THAT interesting!
Have you done any research with a professor? Yes I have. I love the opportunity to learn something new outside of the classroom setting. It’s something different, and you really get the opportunity to get to know professors.
Best memory/experience in college so far: The wing challenge on my residence hall wing last year. It was a semester long series of challenges against all the rooms on our floor, and the room that had the most points won. And guess who won?? :)
During what time of year is UWEC truly “Wisconsin’s Most Beautiful Campus?” The Fall. When the trees change colors outside of Schofield Hall, it is jaw dropping!
What’s one money saver you weren’t expecting coming to UWEC? The textbook rental system. The only thing I’ve had to buy in my first four semesters here was an i-clicker. My wallet stays happy with the rentals!
Any comments about "the Hill"? I love The Hill! You should see my calves ;)
Best advice for getting the most out of college: Keep your residence hall room open! It's a great way to meet people.
Favorite campus event: CUBEfest, which stands for Creating the Ultimate Blugold Experience. It's part of the Phase II orientation geared toward new freshmen, but is open to all students. It is basically a fun two-week event that kicks off the academic year with a variety of welcoming activities and continues with several social get-togethers.
How would you describe UWEC students in three words? Excited, Ambitious, Friendly
Why did you pick UWEC? It was that perfect distance away from home for me. Also, when I toured, I really liked the campus layout and was very impressed with the academics and the opportunities you could participate in.
