Program Overview

Course Information

Students in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Actuarial Program may choose to complete a comprehensive mathematics major or a minor. The comprehensive major satisfies all VEE requirements and includes coursework to prepare students for the first four actuarial exams. Students who select the minor must ensure that they complete VEE requirements indepedently, since not all VEE courses are included.


Comprehensive Major in Actuarial Science

Students in the comprehensive major must complete the following courses (minimum 60 credits, not including any prerequisites):

  • Math 114 - Calculus I
  • Math 215 - Calculus II
  • Math 216 - Calculus III
  • Math 324 - Linear Algebra
  • Math 346 - Introduction to Probability
  • Math 347 - Mathematical Statistics
  • Math 350 - Intro to Financial Mathematics
  • Math 450 - Foundations of Actuarial Science
  • Econ 103 or 303 - Microeconomics
  • Econ 104 or 304 - Macroeconomics
  • Econ 316 - Econometrics
  • Acct 201 - Principles of Accounting I
  • Acct 202 - Principles of Accounting II
  • IS 240 - Information Systems in Business
  • Fin 320 - Principles of Finance
  • Fin 327 - Long Term Financial Management
  • Two of the following:
  • Math 316 - Real Analysis
  • Math 425 - Abstract Algebra I
  • Math 460 - Contingent Payment Analysis
  • Math 470 - Math Models for Financial Economics
