Purpose of the Organization
Acts to support values of acceptance and love in our local community, our state and in the world. Volunteers are involved in community organizing, developing events in support of Okora, Uganda, maintaining and advancing intergenerations relationships, and connecting youth with meaningful actions in Eau Claire. This is a very hospitable and active congregation willing and able to welcome and support the actions of volunteers.
Volunteer Opportunities Available
> JONAH Congregation-Based Community Organizing — Participate in developing leaders and advancing action for the current issues: environmental sustainability, micro-lending circles, treatment instead of prison, voter registration and hazardous waste recycling. Participation is project based. Volunteers may join actions that are already in motion or may have the freedom to create and develop a project with support from the larger organization.
> Okora, Uganda, Project — This is a five-year project raising $28,000 annually to support the resettlement of this northern Ugandan village. Volunteers assist in planned projects (sustainability festival in February, auction in May, golf outing in June) or develop an event that would complement their own career goals.
> Senior Program — This vital program provides regular visitation with members of the congregation and regular events for socialization. Volunteers participate in this program under the supervision of a licensed social worker.
> Youth Programs — Programs for middle school and high school students focus on involvement in the community. Students take weekly mission activities within the community. High school students are beginning a puppet troupe to provide information on the effects of underage drinking.
