The small seaside community of Amity Island relies on summer tourism. As the Independence Day holiday approaches the town is forced to acknowledge a horrifying reality: their beaches are under attack by a great white shark. The town's new chief of police (Roy Scheider), a whiz-kid marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a salty shark hunter (Robert Shaw) who survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis embark on a desperate quest to destroy the beast before it strikes again. Winner of three Academy Awards, including composer John Williams' first for the ominous score, this suspense-filled adaptation of Peter Benchley's novel was director Steven Spielberg's first blockbuster hit.
