Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) is a retired balloon salesman who is part rascal and part dreamer. Ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement, Carl ties thousands of balloons to his house and sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl, an eight-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell — a boy who has never ventured beyond his back yard — is on Carl's front porch. Carl and his unwitting stowaway reach new heights, meeting fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows him to speak, and Kevin, a rare 13-foot-tall flightless bird. Stuck with this menagerie in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life’s biggest adventures aren’t the ones you set out looking for.

Nominated for five Oscars including Best Picture, this Pixar Animation Studios production from Walt Disney Pictures won Academy Awards, BAFTAs and Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature Film and best original score (Michael Giacchino).
