A psychopath is kidnapping and murdering young women across the Midwest. Believing that it takes one to know one, the FBI directs cadet Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) to interview an incarcerated serial killer who may provide psychological insight. The prisoner is a psychiatrist, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant cannibal who will help Starling only if she feeds his morbid curiosity about her own complicated life. The relationship forces Starling to confront her own personal demons as she closes in on the demented killer she seeks.

The Silence of the Lambs is only the third film, after It Happened One Night and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, to win all five major Academy Awards (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Screenplay).
