A young reporter and her cameraman cover the night shift at a Barcelona fire station for their TV show, While You Were Sleeping. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins to record bloodcurdling screams coming from inside an elderly woman’s unit. Authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, leaving the news crew, firefighters and residents trapped inside to face a lethal terror. This found-footage horror film has inspired two sequels, and was the basis of the 2008 U.S. film Quarantine.

“The faux-docu handheld style amps up the single-location claustrophobia brilliantly …
as [REC] ticks off every zombie movie cliche” (BBC).
